The skill summary for LED circuit's 2 kinds of protection PDF Print E-mail

Although LED technology is the mainstream in the market today, but there are many difficult problems that haven't conquered on LED technology, and the service life and energy saving, LED driver price has been the topic of discussion. And in this process LED driver circuit protection become very important, today we will discuss two protection method for LED circuit. 

 
1. Use transient voltage inhibit diodes (for short TVS)

Transient voltage inhibit diode is a diode form of efficient protection devices. When its polar was shocked by the reverse transient high energy  it can let the poles of the high resistance immediately reduced to the low resistance by  12 power of 10 seconds the very short time speed, absorb up to several thousand surge, and make the poles of power voltage clamp bits in a predetermined voltage value, effective protec the precision components in electronic circuit.  Transient voltage inhibit diodes have fast transient response time, high power and low leakage current,  good consistency on breakdown voltage bias , easier to control the clamping voltage, no damage to the limit, small volume characteristics, etc.

2. Choose PTC Resettable Fuse

PTC Resettable Fuse also called  polymer positive temperature thermistor PTC, is made up of a polymer and conductive particles , etc. After special processing, conductive particles are made up a chain of conductive pathways in polymer. When normal working current through(or components in a normal environment temperature), PTC Resettable Fuse become low resistance state; When circuit had abnormal over current through(or environmental temperature rise), large current (or environmental temperature rise) generated heat make polymer rapid expansion, also cut off the conductive particles are composed of conductive pathways, PTC Resettable Fuse become high resistance state; When a current in the smps circuit (overtemperature condition) vanish, polymer cooling, the volume return to normal, conductive particles make up conductive path again, PTC Resettable Fuse become high resistance state recovery in the initial  low resistance state. In normal condition, PTC Resettable Fuse fever is very small, the abnormal state ,the fever is very high, resistance is very big, and also limited its throught current,which played a protective role. In special circuit, we can choose:

(1) Shunt protection of smps. General LED lamp and led driver is divided into many series branch. We can respectively add  PTC components in front of each branch to protect. The benefit of this approach is the accuracy is high, the reliability of the protection.

(2) Overall protection of smps. In all light beads's front pick up a PTC components to take whole lamp protection. The benefit of this approach is simple, do not take a volume. For civil products, this kind of protection in the actual use's results was satisfactory.
